Sourcing research peptides requires more than picking a vendor at random. Whether you're evaluating suppliers locally or assessing an unfamiliar source, knowing which questions separate a legitimate research supplier from one cutting corners will save you time, money, and failed experiments. This guide walks you through the critical questions every researcher should ask—and what the answers actually mean.

1. What Documentation Do You Hold, and What Can You Actually Show Me?

This is the foundational question. Start by asking: What records do you maintain on file for this compound?

A responsible supplier should be honest about what they do and do not possess. Here's what matters:

Red flags: Claims like "high purity," "pharmaceutical grade," "guaranteed purity above X%," "certified purity," or "batch tested" without documentation to support them. What you should NOT expect: Do not ask for GMP, ISO, USP, or other regulatory certifications unless the supplier has explicitly stated they hold them. Most research-use-only suppliers do not manufacture under these standards. If a supplier claims certification without proof, that is dishonest. If they do not claim it, don't invent the question.

What to ask instead: "Can you describe your manufacturing workflow and confirm that the material I receive is the batch I ordered?" This question focuses on traceability and consistency—what actually matters for your experiment. A supplier should be able to confirm that material leaving their facility matches the batch identity you requested and maintains integrity through shipment.

3. How Do You Handle Stability, Storage, and Shelf Life?

Research peptides degrade over time. This is not a failure—it's chemistry. Ask:

What are the recommended storage conditions, and what shelf life would you expect?

A competent supplier provides storage guidance (e.g., "store at −20 °C, desiccated"). They may also provide an expected shelf life based on their own observations or published literature. If they claim "indefinite" or "stable forever," they are speculating without evidence.

What if the peptide shows signs of damage or degradation upon arrival?

Ask about their return or replacement policy. Legitimate suppliers stand behind material that arrives visibly compromised. They cannot guarantee chemistry, but they can replace obvious failures.

Do you have information on how the peptide behaves under different storage conditions?

This is optional but valuable. If a supplier has observations about how a peptide responds to temperature, humidity, or light, that information is useful for planning storage. If they do not, that is normal for a research supplier—the responsibility falls on you to validate stability in your own hands if needed for your application.

4. What Are Your Ordering, Payment, and Delivery Practices?

Logistics matter as much as chemistry.

What is the typical delivery window?

Do you require minimum order quantities, and are there bulk discounts?

These are straightforward business questions. Some suppliers have minimums; others do not. Know the policy upfront.

5. What Claims Should You Be Skeptical Of?

This is the final and perhaps most important section. Here are red-flag claims that should trigger caution:

"Clinically proven," "FDA approved," "pharmaceutical grade," "suitable for human use," or "weight-loss" or "body-composition" benefits.

Research compounds are not approved for any use outside the lab. A supplier making these claims is either dishonest or hasn't read their own legal obligations. Walk away.

"Guaranteed purity of X%," "high purity," or "certified purity" without documentation.

Purity is measurable; a number without proof is marketing, not information.

"Testimonials," "customer reviews," "case studies," or specific review counts.

These do not establish quality. Even if real, they are anecdotes, not data. Legitimate research suppliers focus on what can be demonstrated, not on stories.

"The cheapest on the market," "best quality," or "number one."

Superlatives are noise. Focus on what the supplier can demonstrate, not what they claim to be.

"We test everything" or "third-party tested" — but they cannot produce results when you ask.

This is a misrepresentation. Do not order from them.

Making Your Decision

A strong peptide supplier should:

  • Be transparent about what analytical documentation they do and do not hold.
  • Clearly state that they hold no analytical documentation and materials are uncharacterised.
  • Give realistic timelines and delivery windows (10–15 days is standard).
  • Describe their manufacturing and quality practices plainly.

  • Accept returns for material that arrives visibly damaged.
